Tithes and Offerings yes or no? Part 1

One of the things I love doing is educating the Body of Christ. Many of us have been walking with God for a long time and we do not realize that some believers/Christians who are new or fairly new in their journey may not know why they should or should not do certain things.

The number one reason why we should give our Tithe (our tenth of what we earn) to the church we attend, is because God has commanded us to.  Hosea 4:6a says; My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. (Please read the scripture in it’s entirety) It’s a strong scripture. I remember when I received the revelation that just not knowing any better won’t keep you from reaping the consequences of what you are or are not doing. It also reminds us that is we call ourselves believers we are responsible for reading Gods love letter to us (the Bible). It is the only way we will know how to tap into the fullness of the blessing the Lord has for us.

In Malachi 3:8-9 God asks Israel a question; Will a man Rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say in what way have I robbed you? In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed me, even the whole nation. He goes on to say in Malachi 3:10-12 Bring all the tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house. Test me on this says the Lord God Almighty, and see if I do not pour out so much blessing that there will be not be room enough to store it.  I will rebuke the devourer on your behalf so that it will not destroy the fruits in your soil and your vine in your field shall not fail to bear. Then all the nations will call you blessed for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord.

When my husband and I received the revelation that when you give your tithe, God promises to rebuke the devourer (the one who devours, John 10:10) on our behalf, we really became excited to give. We noticed that when we would tithe our money seemed to stretch and when we did not we were either in lack or just enough. As believers our money is probably the last thing we totally give to God. I am going to make this a two part blog as the subject is so extensive. There are so many scriptures in Proverbs and yes, even in the new testament that encourage us to give. Giving is for our benefit. It makes a statement to “the one who devours”, it says I trust the Lord with everything. Malachi Chapter 3 is the only place you will here God say “Test me in this” and then He makes a promise. I encourage you to ready the entire chapter. Meditate on it and ask Holy Spirit to reveal things to you. I welcome your questions and/or comments.
